2011 Music Harvest

The 2011 garlic harvest continues on schedule. Today’s harvest was the Music growing in Garlic Field 5, Row C. It looked mature and ready to harvest. We like to harvest when there are still at least three green leaves remaining on the stem.  The number of green leaves means there remains the same number of intact parchment skins covering and protecting the cloves whichs give a long keeping time. It also makes for an attractive bulb presentation at the market.

Wagon of Music

The Music was planted last fall with #50 of seed cloves. From this, we gathered a nice wagon full of freshly dug garlic shown here. The harvest pictures show some absolutely beautiful garlic. The Music cultivar performed particularly well again this year giving us large and symetrical bulbs, as shown in the below illustration.
