Some of our Costata Romanesco are ready! They are a distinctive Italian heirloom that are much better tasting than hybrids; clearly better textured, nutty, and delicious, raw or cooked. Taste one and decide. Long held customs prevail here giving a phenomenal taste much as vegetables did “in the old days.”
These were harvested 43 days after the direct-seed plantings on May 26, 2012 beating the anticipated Days to Maturity of 52 days by 9 days. We attribute the early harvest to the nice warm spring and good soil fertility as we do not use row covers or black plastic mulch in our garden.
